Instructions

1. Place DL-401 Black on a palette and sprinkle with AC-310 Silkscreen Medium. Using a palette knife thicken to the consistency of sour cream. If the mix is too thin, add more AC-310 Silkscreen Medium or if it is too thick add more Designer Liner. Too thin of a mixture will bleed under the screen and give you a blurred image. Too thick of a mixture will make it hard for the product to penetrate through the holes in the screen and give blank areas in your screen.
2. To make a pattern to cut out the shapes of the leaves, position the screen, shiny side down, on plain white paper. Hold in place, starting from the center moving outwards. Rub the mixture though the screen with your finger. Lift a corner up to check if you are applying enough color. Remove the screen and wash with water. Do not let the color dry in the screen as this will cause damage to the screen.

3. Cut out paper around silkscreen design in the shape of the leaves leaving a little bit of space between the screened image and the edge of your pattern. Trace the pattern onto the glass with Sharpie Marker. Cut out glass on marked line. For leaves, you will need one Lemongrass Piece and two Clear pieces with the same shape. Clean all cut glass.
4. Silkscreen Leaves onto both sides of lemongrass glass making sure the first side is dry before silkscreening the second side. Place a Clear piece of glass on each side of the lemongrass glass leaves. Cut a piece of copper wire about 6" in length and form a spiral design on one side of the copper wire. Place the spiral side between the clear glass and lemongrass glass just at the top so that it will fuse between the glass. Place in kiln on top of fiber paper to fire.
5. Trace shape for owl onto the opal terra cotta glass and two pieces of clear glass using pattern and sharpie. Cut with pistol grip tool.
6. Screen the owl to both sides of opal terra cotta glass allowing drying time for the first side.
7. Place clear glass on both sides of terra cotta glass. Cut out four pieces of copper wire and form a spiral at one end of the wire. Place each piece of wire, spiral side, between the clear and terra cotta glass. One on top, one at each point on the sides and one at the point on the bottom. Place on fiber paper in kiln.
8. Using glass circle cutter, cut a 6 “circle out of the opal turquoise blue glass and two pieces of clear glass. Clean Glass.
9. Using only the top of the tree not the trunk, silkscreen three times connecting the design on each side of the opal turquoise blue glass making sure to allow drying time for the first side.
10. Place a clear piece of glass on each side of the opal turquoise blue glass and place on fiber paper in the kiln.
11. Fire glass to a full fuse.
    • Please remember that any "generic" schedule is meant as a starting point. Your project, your kiln and your desired results are all variables that will likely be reasons to adjust this schedule. Remember to fuse and anneal for the thickest part of the glass. This is what we used for the full fuse of three pieces of glass.

12. Clean all the wire with sand paper to bring it back to a shiny copper color.
13. Using a pencil and needle nose pliers, wrap the wire around the pencil once at the section closest to the glass to form a loop. Wrap the rest of the wire around the bottom of that loop to close it off. Do this for just the leaves.
14. For the Owl, add beads to the top and add a loop wrapping the excess wire around loop to close it off to attach for hanging. Add beads to the bottom and crimp the copper at the bottom to keep the beads from falling off. Add clusters of beads to the left and right and loop of the copper and wrap the excess like you did the leaves.
15. Drill two holes in the center of the circle for hanging and drill three more holes in an equal amount of area spaced in a triangle along the edge of the circle. Follow markings on the pattern.
16. Measure out 3 feet of fishing line and attach the leaves with fishing line and beads leaving 6” of fishing line at the top.
17. Measure out 12 inches of fishing line and string it through the two holes of the top piece. String each section of the leaves through the outer holes and attach them with the center fishing line making several knots to hold them together.
18. Measure out 12 inches of fishing line and string it through the two holes going down to attach the owl piece as a center piece of the wind chimes.
19. Add a key ring to all the pieces holding it all together to hang.
