Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf Cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-001 White to the top of the tile.
  3. Apply 2 coats of FN-019 Dark Blue on top of the FN-001 White. While applying the second coat of FN-019, "swish" in blended spots of FN-022 Tan to lighten. Blend well.
  4. Using a pencil or carving tool, lightly incise and scratch through the top layers of glazes until you come to the FN-001 White, making sure not to go through to the bisque. Continue until your design is complete. Helpful hints: Sgraffito incising is easier to do when the glaze is damp. If the glaze becomes to dry apply a light coat of water or top color to dampen. If the glaze is to dry, the glaze will chip while incising.
  5. Allow to dry.
  6. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
