Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply 2 coats of UG-2 Sea Blue to the “frame” portion on the mug. To the plate apply 2 coats of UG-2 Sea Blue to the scrolls on the plate.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan and a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 3 coats of UG-1 Kings Blue to the back of the plate and to the mug handle. Apply 2-3 coats of UG-1 Kings Blue to the inside “raised bead edge” of the plate,.
  4. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply 1 coat of UG-1 Kings Blue to the highlights on the scrolls on the plate. Repeat this on the mug to the frame portion of the mug. Refer to the photo for the detailing. Allow to dry.
  5. Fire to shelf cone 04/03.
  6. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-221 Milk Glaze to the entire surfaces of the mug and plate. Allow to dry.
  7. Stilt and fire both pieces to shelf cone 06/05.
  8. In a clean bowl for the decals, fill with warm (not hot) water. Depending on your water source, distilled water may be best for this step. Place one of the decals into the warm water.   It will immediately curl up into a roll. Let this sit in the water for a half minute to a minute.   Remove the decal from the water and place it on a paper towel. When it unfurls, place the decal next to the area where you want to put it. Slide it off sideways from the paper backing and put it into place where you want it to remain. Using either a slightly moistened paper towel (just a few drops of water on a dry towel) or decal squeegee, remove any air bubbles that may be underneath the decal by working it from the center in a starburst motion. Check by holding the decal up to the light at eye level to check if there are any air bubbles trapped underneath the decal.  The entire surface of the decal must be touching the surface of the ware for it to fire into the glaze.
  9. Stilt and fire the pieces to the decal manufacturer’s instructions.  Generally a shelf cone 016/015 firing is the norm.  Some decals may be fired cooler depending on the decal.
