Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-92 Café Ole to the top and sides of the picture frame.  Allow to dry.
  3. Put the following colors on a palette, SC-34 Down to Earth and SC-14 Java Bean.
  4. Tear tissue paper into strips about 4” to 6” long. These do not have to be perfect.  Load the CB-604 #4 Soft Fan with water.
  5. Place a small corner of the tissue paper to the ware so it looks mottled or marbled in appearance.  Make sure there are no air pockets where the tissue paper has not adhered to the piece, as it will leave a section with no color.  Load the brush with water again, picking up some of the color one at a time and soak the tissue paper with color. Then add some SC-14 Java Bean. The tissue paper allows the color to migrate through to the ware, giving subtle nuances to the colors.   Change colors at will to give a marbled coloration. Let the paper almost dry before removing the paper, as this works best.  Allow to completely dry.
  6. Place some SC-15 Tuxedo on a palette or tile sprinkle with AC-310 Silkscreen Medium. Using a palette knife mix to the consistency of thick peanut butter otherwise it will bleed. If the mix is to thin add more AC-310 Silkscreen Medium or if to thick add more SC-15 Tuxedo to thin.
  7. Position the screen on the piece. Hold in place, starting from the center out, rub the mixture on the screen with your finger.  Lift a corner up to check if you are applying enough color.  Remove the screen and wash with water.  Do Not let the color dry in the screen. This will cause damage to it.
  8. Allow to dry.
  9. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06/05.
