Foundations, Jungle Gems Stroke & Coat and Magic Metallics make this a one of a kind piece..

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Place Masking Tape over the hole on the bottom of the fish.
3. Place some FN-009 Black into a small cup and add a little bit of water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water).  It should be the consistency of a coffee cream.  Pour this into the Koi fish and roll around to completely coat the interior of the Koi fish.  Drain out the excess glaze and keep Koi fish inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside using a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
4. Remove the masking tape.
5. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of CG-786 Obsidian to the face, fins and tail areas, keeping any color off the eyes and scales.
6. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, block in the eye with 2 coats of SC-28 Blue Isle, then side load in SC-78 Cara-bein Blue and shade the edges.
7. Using a CB-106 # 6 Script Liner, apply 2 coats of SC-15 Tuxedo to the iris of the eye, then add a dot of SC-16 Cotton Tail for a highlight.
8. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
9. Using a 1 inch paper punch, punch out circles from the Japanese newspaper. These will be used to cover the scales on the body of the Koi.
10. Using a CB-310 #10 Flat Shader, apply 1 coat of AC-501 Gloss Brush-on Sealer to the scale area to seal the bisque.
11. Starting from the tail towards the head, wet a scale with the AC-501 Gloss Brush-on Sealer and press on the punched circle, and if needed, trim to fit the scale you are working on. (Decoupage)  Continue until the scales are done, pressing firmly to remove any air bubbles.
12. Using a CB-310 #10 Flat Shader, apply 1 coat of AC-501 Gloss Brush-on Sealer to the newspaper areas. Allow to dry.
13. Mix a small amount of MM-202 Green Patina with MM-102 Copper Metallic and wait until the Copper starts to turn aged/green. Then with a CB-310 #10 Flat Shader, apply this color mixture over the paper areas and the fins of the Koi fish. Use a paper towel or damp sponge and wipe back the piece, leaving heavy color in the recessed area. Allow to dry.
14. Thin some SS-138 Flat Black acrylic with water, about 60/40, and apply 1 coat over the newspaper areas with the CB-310 #10 Flat Shader, and again wipe back leaving some color in the recessed areas. This will help deepen the patina and add further shadows to the scales.
15. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, outline all the scales.
16. If desired, apply 1 coat of MM-502 Matte Sealer to the scales to seal the piece using the CB-310 #10 Flat Shader.
