Instructions

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. In a mixing cup, mix 2 oz. of FN001 White with 2 oz. of FN014 Antique White. Blend well.
3. Using CB604 Soft Fan apply 3 coats of glaze mixture to the front of the plate. Reserve extra glaze. Let the piece dry.
4. Using AC230 Clay Carbon and a pencil to transfer the pattern to the ware.
5. Condition CB110 Liner and CB406 Pointed Round with brush cleaner. Load the liner brush with wax and paint in the lines in the flowers and leaves, outline the stems. Notice in the pattern that the lines in the flowers are not uniform in width or shape. Using CB406 to apply one heavy coat of wax to about 1” to 1 ½” out from the edge of the pattern over the background areas. Wash the brushes with warm water and brush cleaner immediately after use. Let the wax dry on the piece before continuing the next step.
6. Apply one coat of FN48 Bright Pink to the flower, leaves and stems of the pattern. Try not to get any glaze on the waxed areas of the plate if possible. The glaze should “bead” up and off of the lines and edges of the pattern while painting. If the glaze doesn’t bead up, touch the tip of the brush to the area to break the surface tension of the glaze, allowing it to repeal off the wax. Let dry.
7. On a tile or palette, place all of the Stroke and Coat colors. Load a slightly moistened Synthetic Sea Wool sponge with first SC42 Butter Me Up and apply it to part of the leaves, bud and upper areas of the larger flower near the leaves. Try not to get too much color out over the waxed areas of the background areas. Without rinsing the sponge, pick up some of the SC52 Toad-ily Green and SC26 Green Thumb. Veil the colors over portions of the yellow color. Tip the sponge again in a little SC8 Just Froggy and accent ever so lightly some of the darker green areas. Refer to the picture for color placement. Rinse the sponge. Use a moistened brush to pick up some of the excess color that is on the waxed areas of the background while the color is wet. Check for excess color on the waxed lines of the pattern as well.
8. Load the sponge with SC2 Melon-Choly and tip with SC89 Cutie Pie Coral and veil the color to the remaining areas of the flower petals, leaves and bud. Use the moistened brush to pick up any excess color off of the waxed background areas before the color has dried.
9. Use moistened Q-Tips to remove any droplets of color remaining on the wax areas. Examine the background areas carefully for any specks of color on the waxed background or lines in the pattern before firing. Even the slightest speck of color will fire into the glaze surface and leave a spot. If you should “rub” through any of the waxed areas on the background color, carefully reapply some of the reserved glaze mixture only to that area(s).
10. Apply 3 coats of FN50 Coral to the rim and back of the plate using CB604 Soft Fan and CB106 Script Liner for the rim portion.
11. Stilt and Fire the piece to Shelf Cone 05-06. Vent the kiln the first hour of the firing as there will be smoke emitting out of the kiln while the wax is being burned off.
