Instructions
- Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust. Check the inside of the vase for any debris as well.
- Place some FN-009 Black into a small cup and add a little bit of water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water). It should be the consistency of a coffee cream. Pour this into the vase and roll around to completely coat the interior of the vase. Drain out the excess glaze and keep vase inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside using a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
- Using a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, trace the pattern onto the vase at an angle. If you are confident enough you can skip tracing the “frills” of the pattern and paint it freehand. You may have to use the scissors to cut the pattern to bend it around the edges of the vase.
- Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply a good hefty coat, starting with lightest color SC-24 Dandelion paint approximately every forth streamer frill in the pattern. You will notice that the streamer frills intertwine and may overlap one another in the pattern. Pay attention when painting in these areas. Use the brush fully loaded (almost to where the color is dripping off ) so you don’t have to go over each color with more than one good heavy coat. Continue with the next color of SC-27 Sour Apple to about every third streamer frill. Next is SC-11 Blue Yonder to about half of the remaining streamer frills. Finally the remaining ones are painted with SC-88 Tu Tu Tango. It is
- Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner or CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, outline the previously painted streamer frills with SC-15 Tuxedo. If there is a small background area between the streamers, paint them in with a good coat of black. By filling in the small areas around the streamer frills now, it will be easier to apply the Jungle Gem glaze in a later step.
- Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, paint in the eyelashes on the mask with SC-24 Dandelion with 2 good coats. The color should be rather raised with 2 good coats. To the mask portion of the pattern, paint in 3 coats of SC-73 Candy Apple Red to the stripe in the mask using a brush sized for the area.
- Use the end of a brush to apply the dots in the mask portion of the pattern with SC-13 Grapel. Notice that the dots vary in size. A larger handle end of a brush will give you larger sized dots.
- Shake and stir CG-970 Masquerade. Apply 2 coats of glaze with crystals to the background of the vase using a brush sized for the area being painted. Also, make sure that the placement of the crystals is not heavy in any one area. Make sure some glaze and crystals are applied to the smaller areas between the streamer frills as well for continuity.
- Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 1 coat of S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing to the streamer frills and apply 2 coats over the “mask” portion of the pattern.
- Using SA-003 White Accent to adorn the mask edge with a “loopy” ribbon. See photo/pattern for placement and sizing.
- Stilt and fire the piece to shelf cone 06/05.
