Instructions
- Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Mositen a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
- Cut out the whale template from the pattern. Place on the bisque and create an outline of the whale with a pencil.
- Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner apply three coats of SC-11 Blue Yonder inside the whale outline, brushing slightly beyond the pencil line.
- When the last coat of the Blue Yonder is dry to the touch, lightly dampen the template and place on top of glazed area. Press down using a paper towel to remove excess water.
- Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan apply one coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the front and back cover of the book, brushing over the paper whale template.
- Dampen a heavy-duty (double-ply) paper towel with water, then squirt in loops of SC-16 Cotton Tail and SC-30 Blue Dawn onto the paper towel.
- Fold the paper towel in half, then open. Check to see that the entire surface of the towel has glaze on it (no bare spots - if necessary, add more glaze swirls, refold and recheck).
- Place the bisque on a flat surface, then place the glazed side of the paper towel onto the bisque. Using a dry 2" foam roller (or a sponge), roll/press the paper towel to evenly disperse the color onto the bisque surface. Let completely dry.
- Repeat steps 6-8 to apply color to the back of the bisque.
- Remove the paper template.
- Sketch the wave under the whale.
- Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner apply SC-28 Blue Isle and SC-29 Blue Grass to the wave. The brushstrokes should be applied from bottom right to upper left of the wave, creating the appearance of moving water (don't fully blend the colors).
- Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner apply SG-302 Snowfall to the tips of the waves. Apply heavily applications to the front of the wave, thinning as you work (from left to right) into the wave.
- Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan apply three coats of SC-30 Blue Dawn to the book's spine and one coat of CG-788 Dutch Enamelware to the pages.
- Thin slightly (two parts glaze to one part water) FN-018 Bright Blue; pour inside the bisque and roll the thinned glaze around until you have completely covered the inside surface. Drain out the excess.
- When the Blue Yonder on the whale is dry, use SG-401 Designer Liner Black to add details to the whale.
- Pencil in a title, "Whales Tales" (or a title of your choosing), then use CB-110 #10/0 Liner to apply SC-15 Tuxedo to the letters.
- Apply 1 coat of S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing to the front and back of the book. DO NOT apply clear glaze to th Snowfall glaze.
- Fire to cone 05/06.
