Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a No. 2 pencil, sketch the top half of the fish bowl onto your plate. Do this by drawing a very thin elongated horizontal oval, with a larger one encircling it. Then, create the upper edge of the bowl by drawing a curved line that begins approximately ¼" in from the edge of the oval and moves slightly out until it meets the actual edge of the plate. The bottom curve of the actual plate serves as the bottom half of the fish bowl.
  3. Make a color wash using SC-30 Blue Dawn and apply it inside the bowl with a cotton ball, leaving approximately 1" from the oval rim white.
  4. Using a RB-116 #6 Round, apply 2 coats of SC-30 Blue Dawn in an elliptical shape just beneath the oval rim.
  5. Using a No. 2 pencil, sketch 3 strands of seaweed just off center in the bowl.
  6. Using a RB-116 #6 Round, apply 2 coats of SP-226 Speckled Green Thumb to the seaweed.
  7. Using a RB-116 #6 Round, alternate applying dabs of SC-10 Teal Next Time, SC-28 Blue Isle, and SC-29 Blue Grass to make the pebbles in the bottom of the fish bowl. The dabs should slightly overlap one another.
  8. Using a RB-100 #0 Detail Liner, apply 3 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail in varying sized circles to create bubbles coming up from the bottom of the bowl. Then apply 3 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail in parallel curved lines on either side of the bowl. Apply 1 coat of SC-11 Blue Yonder in half moon shapes inside the bubbles.
  9. Using a RB-116 #6 Round, apply 1 coat of SC-35 Gray Hare on the castle. Apply 1 coat of SC-5 Tiger Tail all over the starfish and apply 1 coat of SP-254 Speckled Vanilla all over the seashell.
  10. Using a RB-100 #0 Detail Liner, apply 2 coats of SC-33 Fruit of the Vine to the mouth and alternating stripes of the fish. Apply a dot of SC-33 Fruit of the Vine in the center of the fish's eye. Apply 2 coats of SC-6 Sunkissed on the remaining stripes. Apply SC-75 Orange-A-Peel on the outer eye, fins and tail of the fish.
  11. Tint AC-306 Clay Mender in 3 different AC-222 Medium Writer Tip bottles with SC-26 Green Thumb, SC-63 Popeye's Favorite, and SC-16 Cotton Tail. Using the AC-306 Clay Mender tinted with SC-26 Green Thumb and SC-63 Popeye's Favorite, outline the seaweed and add lines and curves throughout the stems. Using the AC-306 Clay Mender tinted in SC-16 Cotton Tail, make ripples in the water that eminate in half circles just right of center in the elliptical section of SC-30 Blue Dawn.
  12. Attach all the ceramic add-ons with AC-306 Clay Mender.
  13. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
