Instructions



Casting Directions:

  1. Cast CD-1148 Skinny Gourd on the heavy side. When it is removed from the mold do not attach the stem.
  2. Roll out clay " thick using a rolling pin on canvas.
  3. Trace chicken parts pattern onto the clay.
  4. Using a fettling knife, cut out and remove the excess clay.
  5. Use the CD-1078 Press Tools to press in pattern in the waddle and texture the tail feathers with CD-1152 Native American Press Tools.
  6. The tail feathers will need to be shaped and set aside until clay becomes leather hard before attaching to the body.
  7. Attach parts to the gourd, as shown in the picture. Score and apply slip/clay slurry to attach the parts. For the tail, cut a slit in the gourd then put about " of the end of the tail inside for extra support.
  8. Roll a coil and put underneath the tail. Prop until leather hard.
  9. Take a ball of clay and press in the CD-1078 Press Tools spiral tool and attach for the eyes. Allow to throughly dry. Bisque fire to shelf cone 04.

Decorating Directions:

  1. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-013 Light Yellow to the body of the chicken. Allow to dry.
  3. Using a CB-604 Soft Fan and a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 3 coats of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the cone and waddle, 3 coats of SC-25 Crackerjack Brown to the wings, 3 coats of SC-76 Cara-bien Blue to the tail feathers, and 3 coats of SC-5 Tiger Tail to the beak.
  4. Dry brush SC-33 Fruit of the Vine over the tail detail to highlight.
  5. Using the AC-213 Sponge on a Stick load the sponge with SC-5 Tiger Tail. Tap the SC-5 Tiger Tail onto the stamp with circle or swirl pattern, then press the stamp gently onto the body of the chicken. Continue stamping around the piece. Stamp the wings with ST-392 Tickle Tickle using SC-75 Orange-A-Peel. Allow to dry.
  6. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, paint the eyes with SC-16 Cotton Tail and then SC-76 Cara-bein Blue for the iris and SC-15 Tuxedo for the pupil.
  7. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
