Instructions


  1. Cast the CD-1148 Skinny Gourd mold. Remove the Gourd from the mold. Slip attach the stem to the top of the gourd.
  2. While the greenware is still leather hard, refer to the photo and lightly sketch a wavy line towards the top of the gourd to form the bottom of the ghost and sketch a face on the lower part of the gourd to make a pumpkin.
  3. Using a Xacto Knife, cut off  the top ghost portion of the lantern. Make sure to angle the knife blade to give an angle cut rather than cutting straight across. This will help the 2 parts fit together better and keep from slipping.
  4. Cut out the face of the pumpkin.
  5. Keep the pieces together and allow to through dry.
  6. Clean the greenware with a clean-up tool, sanding pad and sponge.
  7. Bisque fire to shelf cone 04.

Painting Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan apply 3 coats of FN-002 Yellow to the inside of the piece.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan apply 3 coats of FN-040 - Pumpkin to the pumpkin (lower section of the gourd) and 3 coats of FN-001 White to the ghost (upper section of the gourd).
  4. Using the AC-213 Sponge on a Stick load the sponge with SC-74 Hot Tamale. Tap the SC-74 Hot Tamale onto the ST-383 Chain Link Stamp then press the stamp gently onto the cheek area of the pumpkin. (it might be easier if you cut the stamp into the 3 sections). Continue stamping around the pumpkin area of the gourd with SC-75 Orange-A-Peel. Allow to dry.
  5. Using a pencil, sketch the eyes on the pumpkin and the ghost. Also sketch on the mouth and eyebrows of the ghost.
  6. Using a CB-202 #2 Detail Liner, apply 2 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the eye area of the pumpkin. Apply 2 coats of SC-11 Blue Yonder to the iris of the eyes on both the pumpkin and the ghost. Apply SC-15 Tuxedo to the pupils of both the pumpkin and ghost.
  7. Apply 2 coats SC-15 Tuxedo to the ghost's mouth and eyebrows.
  8. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, outline and detail the ghost's eyes with SC-15 Tuxedo. Allow to dry.
  9. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
