Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 Bisque. Moisten a clean Sponge and wipe Bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 Coats of S-2701 Peacock Eyes with an uneven edge to one third of the plate.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 Coats of FN-001 White to the remainder of the plate.
  4. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, add water to the fan brush, then pick up some SC-12 Moody Blue and brush over some of the S-2701 Peacock Eyes, repeat for the SC-75 Orange-A-Peel to brush over the remaining Peacock Eyes. Let the two colors flow into each other.
  5. Hang twelve size 16 rubber bands from a pencil, take the thirteenth rubber band and wrap it next to the underside of the pencil, tie it off as it were a ponytail (so it is tight). Remove the pencil, now you have loops of rubber bands. Cut the loops with scissors, cutting so they are not exactly even. This is the tool that creates the rubber band roses.
  6. To make the roses, pat the tips of the cut rubber bands into the SC-12 Moody Blue, then pat some color off. Place rubber band tips on desired location of rose and twist back and forth. Try this on paper before you go to the plate. Finish all the roses on the plate. A pencil can be used to and further definition and lines in the rose - if needed.
  7. Using a CB-404 #4 Pointed Round to make a press and lift stroke for the leaves with SC-12 Moody Blue. Sgraffito the lines in the leaves with a pencil.
  8. Using a CB-404 Pointed Round, thin SC-75 Orange-A-Peel, apply a wash around the roses and the leaves, leaving unpainted spaces around the roses and the leaves.
  9. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
