Instructions
- Moisten a clean sponge and wipe your bisque to remove any dust or dirt.
- Using tracing paper, have each of them trace the dragonfly design provided onto their bisque.
- Make a color wash by mixing equal amounts of water with SC-43 Lettuce Alone on your palette. Then, using your soft fan brush, apply 1 coat as evenly as possible to the background of the piece (all around the dragonfly - try not to get any on the dragonfly).
- Next, using the CB-308 Flat Shader, make a border around your piece by loading your brush with SC-15 Tuxedo. Place your brush approximately ¼" inside the rim of the plate and pulling it directly outward. Then, move the brush to the left, leaving a 1" gap from the last stroke, and repeat this process. This will create a semi-checkered border (see photo sample).
- Using SC-4, 6, 7, 11, 18, 43, and 70 fill in the various sections of the dragonfly's wings. Apply two coats of glaze to each section. Use the project photo as a guide - repeating the exact color pattern and placement is not as critical as is choosing shades and the colors you place next to them. Imagine what a dragonfly's wings look like and try to capture the iridescent quality of their wings.
- Using SC-4 Salsa paint the dragonfly's mouth.
- Use SC-6, 11, 18 and 70 to fill in the sections of the Dragonfly's body. Again, apply no more than two coats.
- Now, it is time to add the "iron piping." Carefully and slowly squeeze the writing tip bottle filled with AC-306 Clay Mender and trace over the lines of the dragonfly. The dimension of the clay mender will hold up during firing.
