Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  3. Cut out the flowers from the pattern. Try not to destroy the pattern when cutting out the flowers. Use the pattern and cutouts negative sections as guide to where to place the flower cut outs. Wet the cut outs and place them onto the piece as they were in the original pattern. Make sure all the edges are securely down on the flowers.
  4. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-87 Ruby Slippers to the piece. When the last coat of red has been applied and the color has lost its sheen but is still damp, remove the paper cut outs of the flowers.  Allow to dry.
  5. With a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, trace the bird, branches and leaves to the piece.
  6. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply 1-2 coats of SC-87 Ruby Slippers to the flower centers.
  7. Shake and stir CG-977 Ink Spots. Apply 2-3 coats to the flowers using a brush sized for the flowers being painted. Watch the placement of the crystals to keep them from bunching up into clusters.
  8. Using a brush sized for the area, apply 2 coats of SC-15 Tuxedo to the branches and bird in the pattern.
  9. Use SG-401 Black Detail Liner to paint in the leaves in the pattern.   Also outline the flower edges where they meet the red background color. Outline the flower centers as well.
  10. In a plastic cup, thin some S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing to a skim milk consistency.   Apply 1 coat over the entire front and sides of the ware using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan.  Allow to dry.
  11. Stilt and fire the piece to Shelf Cone 06/05.
