Instructions

  1. With a rolling pin on canvas, roll out a piece of moist clay ¼" thick between wooden slats.
  2. Stamp the slap with the triangle press tool from CD-780 before slumping the clay.
  3. Use the slump side of the CD-777 Oval to slump the shape for the head; two of these pieces are needed.
  4. When the clay pieces are firm enough so as not to loose their shape, slip attach the pieces together.
  5. Using a small slab for the bottom of the face, cut into the sides of the oval, cutting out about an inch from both seams in an oval shape. Score and brush with slip, then lay on the small slab piece. Cut around the shape to create a bottom. Blend the edges into the shape with your fingers.
  6. Pencil on an oval shape for the mouth opening which is off center. Roll some fat coils and lay them on the opening to create the shapes of lips. To make the lips protrude, attach a coil to the lower lip opening with a larger fat coil attached to the first coil.
  7. Cut out the opening of the mouth. Smooth out the opening with the lips, blending them together.
  8. Roll large balls of clay for the eyes and slip attach to the head. Roll smaller balls and press and roll in the star/asterick design from the CD-1078 Press Tool to form the shape attached to the large eyeball.
  9. Roll out a thinner piece of clay and cut out a shape for the tongue then slip attach to the inside of the mouth and turn up the end of the tongue.
  10. Form a piece of clay into a four fingered hand and arm. Attach to the back of the oval, bending it to bring it towards the lips, attaching the fingers to the face and lips as shown.
  11. For the hair use a small extruder/clay gun with the small holes attachment to make the spaghetti like hair. Attach with slip between the eyes.
  12. Allow to dry thoroughly.
  13. Bisque fire to shelf cone 04.
