Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Pencil a line around the inside of the hat brim as a border for the red glaze.
  3. Thin FN-004 Red with water (3:1 glaze to water ratio). Pour inside MB-1406 Top Hat bisque, rotate to coat interior up to the penciled line, then drain excess. Sponge off any FN-004 Red that extends above the penciled line.
  4. Draw a line around the hat 1½" from the bottom of the bisque. Wrap a line of tape around this bottom line. Measure 2"above the bottom taped line and draw another penciled line; wrap tape around the hat to mark the upper line.
  5. Familiarize yourself with silk screen instructions. Thicken SC-15 Tuxedo with AC-310 Silkscreen Medium with a palette knife until it has the consistency of peanut butter.
  6. From DSS-106 Winter/Holiday and DSS-107 Season's Greetings, select images to be screened into the 2" band around the hat.
    • Note: Snowman, candles, bells and pinecones were used here, in addition to the words Peace, Joy and Holidays from DSS-107 Season's Greetings.
  7. Apply the thickened SC-15 Tuxedo through the screen with your finger. Allow the screened images to dry on the bisque before screening another image. Let dry.
  8. With CB-604 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing over the 2" screened area. Allow glaze to dry completely between coats.
  9. Remove the two bands of tape.
  10. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan and CB-106 #6 Script Liner apply 4 coats of FN-304 Black Velvet to the remainder of the bisque. Allow glaze to dry completley between coats.
  11. Fire to cone 05/06.
