Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. With scissors, cut out the shape of the barn and a strip of paper for the grass to act as a mask. Wet the back of the pattern shapes with water and apply to the bisque.
  3. Wet a piece of chamois (or Blue Shop Paper Towel). Ring and lay it flat. Disperse SC-16 Cotton Tail in circles on sections of the chamois. Try your best to estimate where the barn will be and the overall size of the bisque. The Cotton Tail will be clouds.
  4. Disperse SC-31 The Blues in loops around the Cotton Tail. Fold the chamois in half, open and then fold again in the opposite direction.
  5. Lay the chamois glaze side on the canvas. Using the 2" Foam Roller, roll over the chamois evenly to transfer the glaze. Pulling up from both ends, lift off the chamois. Sometimes there is too much glaze, take a dry sponge and just press to lift. This will give it more of a cloud appearance.
  6. Remove the paper pattern shapes.
  7. Using a pencil, draw in the detail of the barn.
  8. Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply 2 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to some panels of the barn, and 2 coats of SC-35 Gray Hare to others.
  9. Mix SC-16 Cotton Tail with SC-35 Gray Hare for various shades of gray. Using different shades give the barn a weathered look. Apply 2 coats of the mixed SC-16 Cotton Tail shades.
  10. Slightly thin SC-31 The Blues with water (3:1). Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, apply the thinned SC-31 The Blues to the open door and window.
  11. Using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round, shade one side of the door and window with SC-31 The Blues.
  12. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, outline the barn, window, door, wood boards with SC-15 Tuxedo.
  13. Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, stroke in SC-26 Green Thumb for the grass. Leave brush marks for a watercolor effect.
  14. Slightly thin SC-36 Irish Luck with water (3:1).
  15. Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply the thinned SC-36 Irish Luck to the top edges of the grass and sporadically in the lawn.
  16. Using SG-405 Green, draw blades of grass at the horizon line and sporadically in the lawn.
  17. Using a pencil, draw a fence.
  18. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, apply 1 coat of SG-402 White to the fence posts. Using the metal applicator, draw the lines for the wire of the fence.
  19. Slightly thin SC-15 Tuxedo with water (3:1). Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply with thinned SC-15 Tuxedo to create shadow lines for the fence post as well as under the edges of the barn's roof. Allow to dry.
  20. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1-2 coats of S-2101 Crystal Clear, or dip in clear glaze of choice.
  21. Stilt and fire to cone 06/05.
