Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. On a palette, with a palette knife, thicken SW-301 Iron Wash with AC-310 Silkscreen Medium to the consistency of peanut butter. If the mixture is too thin, add more AC-310 Silkscreen Medium or if it is too thick, add more SW-301 Iron Wash. Too thin of a mixture will bleed under the screen and give you a blurred image. Too thick of a mixture will make it hard for the product to penetrate through the holes in the screen and give blank areas.
  3. Tape off a "pie section" of the exterior of the bowl so that the screen will lay flat, approximately a 4" vertical section.
  4. Align the small stripes from DSS-0105 Stripes, with the shiny side up, on the exterior of the bowl within the 4" taped off section. Use a squeegee to apply the thickened SW-301 Iron Wash over the screen.
  5. Once dry, remove the tape. Then tape overtop the screened stripes at the edge of the stripes so that the next screened section will be butted up and aligned. Then tape off another pie section, as before, for a screening area.
  6. Realign the screen over the taped off section and continue to screen, repeating this process to screen the remainder of the bowl. Try to match up the stripes with the screen. If you continuously are screening, it is not necessary to clean the screen until after the last screening.
  7. Allow to dry.
  8. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SW-108 Green Tea over the screened stripes on the exterior of the bowl.
  9. If using a banding wheel, band the inside of the bowl with 2 coats of SW-108 Green Tea. Once dry, then apply 2 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal with a CB-604 # 4 Soft Fan. Otherwise, brush in a circular direction, using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan.
  10. Clean the bottom of the bowl free of any glaze.
  11. Fire to cone 6.
