Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using the AC-230 Clay carbon Paper, transfer the pattern to the piece.
  3. Starting with the tangerines, using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, load with SC-75 Orange-A-Peel and apply 2 coats going with the shape of the area being filled in. Load the brush for the third coat of color and tip one edge of the brush with SC- 73 Candy Apple Red and shade the red color to the left when filling in the tangerines. Fill in the back tangerine first, then the top one. Reloading of the brush may be necessary to complete the area, however you may not need to pick up any of the red color to complete the tangerine.
  4. Using a CB-406 #6 Pointed Round, load with SC-52 Toad-ily Green and fill in the leaves with 1 generous coat.
  5. Using a CB-406 #6Pointed Round with SC-39 Army Surplus and using a print stroke, paint in the sections on the leaf. Keep the point of the brush towards the center vein when doing the print stroke. The amount of the brush applied to the ware will determine how large the print will be. It maybe helpful to sketch in the sections of the leave prior to painting.
  6. Rinse CB-406 #6 Pointed Round in water and only tip the end of the brush with SC-31The Blues. Apply the tip of the brush towards the center of the flower doing a print stroke with a little bit of a wiggle when completing the stroke.
  7. Use the end of the brush to place some dots of SC-42 Butter Me Up for the centers of the flowers.
  8. Using a CB-406 #6 apply SC-14 Java Bean, paint in the branches.
  9. Using the AC-222 Medium Writer Tip with SC-15 Tuxedo, detail the pattern. The detailing doesn't have to be exact. Keep the lines uneven and sketchy. The quicker you work the better the outcome will be. You will get more variation in the line, which only adds character and interest to the detailing. When placing the "dot" detailing on the tangerines, make sure you do it without creating a set pattern like a polka dot print. Bunch some of them up towards the leaves trailing as they come down the side of the tangerine. When outlining the leaves, paint them as they grow. Start at the base of the leaf to outline, paint in the center vein from the base of the leaf and then the side veins from the center vein. The detail in the flower centers are a quasi circle of "nervous" dots with a few lines radiating from the center to give the illusion of the stamens. let the detailing dry well before continuing.
  10. Center the bowl onto a Banding Wheel. Use the base of the bowl as your centering guide as the bowl is misshapend and the outside edge cannot be used for this purpose. You may need to use a prop to hold up your arm to reach into the bowl when completing the banding. A pencil may be used to first apply a "guide" line for the banded line prior to the actual painting. Paint in the black line using CB-406 #6 Pointed Round loaded with slightly thinned SC-15 Tuxedo. This line should be slightly lower the lowest part of pattern.
  11. Trace or sketch the wording onto the ware. Using the AC-222 Medium Writer Tip with SC-75 Orange-A-Peel and complete the writing of the word "tangerine". Let the color dry well before continuing.
  12. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-215 Speckled Tuxedo to the outside back of the bowl.
  13. Apply clear glaze. Allow to dry.
  14. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
