Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. With a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, trace on pattern or you can just sketch it on.
  3. Condition a CB-106 #6 Script Liner by: wetting the brush in water and squeeze out any excess water. Load the brush with AC-525 Brush Cleaner then squeeze between a paper towel.
  4. Apply 1 good coat of AC-302 Wax Resist to the foot of the plate to help keep the glaze off the foot of the plate.
  5. All the background and foreground colors are applied as washes, overlapping one another using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan brush. All colors mixed with water.
  6. Refer to color placement from the pattern, background colors are SC-11 Blue Yonder, SC-31 The Blues, SC-29 Blue Grass, SC-7 Leapin’ Lizard, SC-9 Jaded and SC-16 Cotton Tail.
  7. Foreground is SC-7 Leapin’ Lizard and SC-11 Blue Yonder.
  8. Use SC-6 Sunkissed in the foreground in splotches, without thinning the color; drop  SC-7 Leapin’ Lizard into the wet Sunkissed glaze, allowing for the colors to bleed.
  9. Spatter SC-29 Blue Grass into the foreground.
  10. Apply SG-401 Designer Liner with CB-110 #10/0 Liner to the black lines and the black in the birds.  The yellow in the birds is 2 coats of SC-6 Sunkissed.
  11. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of SW-001 Stoneware Clear to the top of the plate, and 3 coats of SW-252 Blue Opal to the back of the plate, touch the SW-252 Blue Opal to the front edge of the plate, overlapping the SW-001 Stoneware Clear. Do not apply any glaze to the bottom and foot of the plate.
  12. With a damp sponge, clean off any glaze from the back and the foot of the plate. Stoneware needs be dry footed when fired. Do not use stilts when firing Stoneware.
  13. Fire on a kiln washed shelf to shelf cone 6.
