Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-042 Teal Blue to the front and back of the plate. Allow to dry.
  3. Trace the bird stencil on the plate for placement.
  4. Cut out the each of the leaf patterns (6 total).
  5. Place each leaf on the plate for position and trace on. Number each one with corresponding leaf.
  6. Each leaf will be painted on the backside of the paper leaf with thick coats of the colors. All leaves will be painted before applying them to the plate. Using a Script Liner; Leaf #1 – Spots of SC-91 Seabreeze then fill in a coat of SC-35 Gray Hare; #2 – spots of SC-91 Seabreeze then fill in a coat of SC-94 Curry Around; #3 – spots of SC-91 Seabreeze then fill in a coat of SC-94 Curry Around; #4 Spots of SC-35 Gray Hare and a dab of SC-94 Curry Around then fill in a coat of SC-60 Silver Lining: #5 - Spots of SC-35 Gray Hare then fill in a coat of SC-60 Silver Lining; #6 – Spots of SC-60 Silver Lining then fill in a coat of SC-94 Honeydew List.
  7. Place each leaf in its numbered position on the plate. Note: leaf #2 is over top of leaf #1. Allow to set for a moment then pressing from the center out to remove any air bubbles. If any color seeps out from under the paper wipe off immediately with your finger. After all the leaves are in position and any excess color is removed, if needed you may touch up with some FN-042 Teal Blue over the paper.
  8. The color on the leaves must be dry before the paper can be removed. If removed to soon you will pull the color off with the paper. You might place near a fan to speed up the drying.
  9. When the color on the leaves is dry, remove the paper leaves.
  10. Spray the backside of the bird stencil with Stencil Adhesive. Position the stencil on the plate where you had traced it.
  11. Apply a good coat of SG-501 Sculpting Medium using a rubber squeegee. Remove the stencil before the SG-501 Sculpting Medium dries to avoid chipping the edges.
  12. Using a Liner, outline and detail the leaves with SC-15 Tuxedo.
  13. With a pencil sketch a loopy line on the plate (refer to the photo).
  14. Apply SA-003 White Accent to the loopy line. Make sure to keep the metal tip off the surface of the plate and allow the Accent to drop down like icing a cake. Allow to dry.
  15. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
