Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Cut out the pattern provided of the lighthouse. Loosely trace around the pattern onto the paint can. Brush two coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the space.
  3. Let dry, brush with water then apply the cut out light house including clouds and rocks to the glaze, press with paper toweling so that that the paper sticks.
  4. Use ¾’ tape to tape under the rim of the paint can, then using the pattern as a guide, tape off the SC-65 Peri-twinkle section around the lighthouse. Tape the edge on the bottom of the paint can for the SC-29 Bluegrass which is about 1 ¼”.
  5. Brush the space with three coats of SC-96 Awk-ward with CB-604 Soft Fan.
  6. Remove the tape, let dry, tape on the edges of the glazed area to glaze the band at the top of the paint can with SC-96 Cant-elope, and SC-29 Bluegrass at the bottom, three coats.
  7. Remove the tape and the paper. Let the glaze dry before screening.
  8. Thicken SC-15 Tuxedo with AC-310 Silk Screen Medium using a palette knife to a thick paste. With the screen grain side up, line up the lighthouse with the cut out shape, when it is lined up perfectly, use your finger to rub on the thickened SC-15 Tuxedo over the entire screen, then remove and gently wash the screen.
  9. Thicken SC-29 Bluegrass with the Silk Screen Medium to screen on a compass to the right side of the lighthouse on the Per-twinkle glaze.
  10. Use SC-15 Tuxedo with CB-110 Liner to finish the lines in the clouds, hold a ruler to the outside edge of the per-twinkle glaze, then line with SG-410 Bright Blue Designer Liner.
  11. Brush SC-31 The Blues to the inside two coats adding water to each coat, brush to the inside of the lip letting (if desired) some glaze drip over the edge.
  12. Clear glaze the inside and outside of the can by dipping or brushing on one coat of S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing.
  13. Fire to cone 05/06.
  14. Brush SS-81 Shimmering Silver to the bottom edge and over the top and lip of the paint can. While the stain is wet disperse the top lip with water, so it looks like a real can with paint collecting in the rim.
  15. Make the handles from coat hanger, by wrapping it around a circular object that is smaller than the can, cut with wire cutters to fit, turn in the ends of the hanger then install in the holes on the sides of a the can, it should be snug, if not bend again around a smaller circular object.
  16. Brush on the Shimmering Silver to the handles.
