Instructions

Directions for MB-1417 Snail Box:

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of SC-26 Green Thumb to the body of the snail (bottom of MB-1417 Snail Box). Wipe back using BT-910 Synthetic Sponge to leave SC-26 Green Thumb in the detailed areas.
  3. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-77 Glo-Worm to the interior of the bottom of the box.
  4. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-77 Glo-Worm to the underside of the snail’s body, including the bottom of the bisque.
  5. Slightly thin SC-26 Green Thumb with water to create a wash. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat to the snail's body. You do not need to apply to the inside of the body. Gently sponge off color using BT-910 Synthetic Sponge.
  6. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of CG-963 Lemon Lime to the top portion of the snail’s body, except the eyes. Be sure to stir the CG-963 Lemon Lime very well to apply crystals evenly.
  7. To the shell of the snail (top of MB-1417 Snail Box), using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, start in the swirl’s center and apply SC-93 Honeydew List. Next, blend in SC-77 Glo-Worm, then blend in SC-27 Sour Apple, and finally blend in SC-11 Blue Yonder. Overlap colors while wet to blend/fade. Apply 2 coats. Be sure to apply color beyond the edge of the shell.
  8. For the reversed side of the shell, using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, continue blending SC-11 Blue Yonder to SC-27 Sour Apple in the same spiral direction as the opposite side. Next, blend in SC-27 Sour Apple, then blend SC-77 Glo Worm and finally, blend in SC-93 Honeydew List to the center to complete the shell. Apply 2 coats.
  9. Slightly thin CG-963 Lemon Lime with water and apply 1 coat to the exterior of the shell, using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan.
  10. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, outline the spiral on the shell with SC-26 Green Thumb.
  11. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for a third coat of Stroke and Coat colors.
  12. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, apply 1 coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the eyes. Apply SC-26 Green Thumb for the iris and SC-15 Tuxedo for the pupil. Outline the eyes with SC-15 Tuxedo.
  13. Stilt both pieces and fire to shelf cone 06/05.

Directions for MB-1416 Turtle Box:

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Place SC-77 Glo-Worm, SC-27 Sour Apple and SC-75 Orange-A-Peel in separate paper cups. Thin each color slightly with water, just enough for glaze to be poured onto the shell of the turtle and run on the surface.
  3. Holding the shell of the MB-1416 Turtle Box on the inside, pour the thinned colors from Step 2 over the shell, allowing the colors to run and drip off the edge. Use less of the SC-75 Orange-A-Peel and more of SC-77 Glo-Worm and SC-27 Sour Apple.
  4. Allow to dry fully.
  5. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, outline the mouth and other details of the turtle’s body with SC-15 Tuxedo.
  6. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 even coats of S-2715 Spotted Kiwi to the body of the turtle. Use a CB-106 #6 Script Liner to apply S-2715 Spotted Kiwi around the eyes, trying not to paint inside the eyes.
  7. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 even coats of S-2709 Cappuccino Mint to the under body of the turtle.
  8. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of SC-27 Sour Apple to the entire turtle’s body including the underside of the body, painting S-2709 Cappuccino Mint.
  9. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of S-2709 Cappuccino Mint to the shell.
  10. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of SC-27 Sour Apple to the shell.
  11. Wipe away any excess glaze from the eyes using a brush, if necessary.
  12. Using CB-110 #10/0 Mini Liner, apply 1-2 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the eyes then apply SC-27 Sour Apple to the iris. Fill in the pupils and outline the eyes with SC-15 Tuxedo.
  13. Using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-27 Sour Apple to the interior of the MB-1416 Turtle Box.
  14. Stilt the top and bottom of the box and fire to shelf cone 06/05.
