Instructions

Bluebot

  1. Prepare a ¼” slab approximately 8½" x 14 for all the robot parts: body, feet, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, cylinder top and bottom.
  2. The lid & base: you'll need 5 circular pieces: 2-3", 1-2½” and two 2” pieces. Set aside one 3" piece for the base. Stack the 2½” on the 3" piece, then stack the 2" piece on the 2½” piece. Score and apply slip to each piece prior to stacking.  Score and attach the second 2" piece centered to the bottom of the 3" piece.  This piece serves as a lip to keep the lid from sliding off the cylinder.
  3. Prepare body according to cylinder directions; attached base using 3" clay circle.
  4. Cut holes in the center of the lid for any wires or parts you wish to add.
  5. A toothpick was used to create indentations around each row on the lid.
  6. Legs: cut 2 strips approximately 1-1½” wide x 4" long. Using the 1” dowel, wrapped in paper (so the clay doesn't stick to it) as a form, wrap the clay strips around the dowel, trim and cut as recommended in the cylinder formation directions. Attach to the bottom of the cylinder.

Note: The legs should provide stability and protect against wobbling or tipping. The legs may need to be reshaped into oblong ovals to provide better stability.

  1. Eyes: Cut two strips of clay ½” wide x 3” long for the eyes. Use the ¾” dowel to make eye sockets - as above with the legs. Slip attach to the eye sockets to the body and poke holes through the eyes sockets and through the body for light bulbs.
  2. Ears: Cut two pieces of clay 1” x 2” and two pieces ¾” x 1½". Texture the smaller pieces. Score and slip attach the smaller one over the larger then score and slip to the body for the ears. Cut holes for the fuses.
  3. Cut a piece of clay ½” x 2½”, texture it. Score and slip attach for the mouth.
  4. Cut a piece of clay 1 ¼” x 1 ¼””, texture it. Score and slip attach for the nose, bending it to curve it out.
  5. Roll 14 small balls of clay and attach in-between the eyes and ears - or however you wish to - to create eye brows.
  6. Score the body to add texture to it. Allow to dry.
  7. Bisque Fire to shelf cone 04/05.
