Designer: Marcia Roullard
Instructions
- For the right depth of clay, lay out canvas fabric on table and place 1/4" slats on the left and right side of the canvas fabric. Place a piece of moist clay about 2 lbs. in size in the middle of the fabric. Using a rolling pin, roll out the clay to the size desired. The slats are used as a guide to keep your clay level and at the same evenness. Make sure the edges of the rolling pin hit the 1/4" slats.
- Lay MT-008 Spirals on the clay, roll over with the rolling pin to transfer the image.
- Let the clay rest for a bit and to gain some stiffness.
- Cut the clay with a needle tool 1/2" larger than the widest side of the 8" form.
- With the rubber rib, narrow the edges of the clay.
- Lay the clay with the spiral side down over the smallest side of the clay form.
- Form the clay around the form. Let it sit and get somewhat leather hard so that when you take the clay off the form it will keep its shape.
- Let completely dry and fire to a shelf cone 04.
- Brush two coats of the various colors, SC-73 Candy Apple Red, SC-97 Cant-elope, SC-77 GLo-worm, SC--11 Blue Yonder, SC-27 Sour Apple, SC-75 Orange A Peel, into the spirals, with CB-106 Script Liner.
- When the last coat is still damp, scrape off the glaze from the top of the spiral, with a flat rubber rib. With a damp sponge remove whats left of the color, so just the lines in the spiral have color to show the detail.
- Dot SG-401 Black around all the spirals.
- Clear glaze with S-2101 Clear using CB-604 Soft Fan to the inside of the dish, and three coats of FN-051 Strawberry to the back with the fan brush.
- Fire to shelf cone 05/06.
