Instructions
- Roll out clay ¼ inch thick using a rolling pin on canvas. Roll a large enough piece to fit over the CD-777 Oval Hump mold.
- Place clay over the mold and smooth to fit the form with a damp sponge. Cut off excess clay with a needle tool.
- Lightly score a centerline on the form and a line intersecting for the eye placement. This will help you keep the pieces symmetrical. Use the pattern provided to cut and form pieces.
- Form the nose from a large coil flattened on one side according to pattern and slip attach to the face on the centerline. Score the end of the nose with a clay tool for the black color placement. Roll smaller coils for the brows and attach to the face as shown.
- Roll and flatten balls of clay for the eyes and slip attach under the brows. Roll larger balls of clay for the muzzle; flatten and slip attach under the nose. Make a triangle shape of clay for the mouth and attach under the muzzle.
- Press clay into the sun shape from CD-779 Celestial Press Mold and slip attach to the lion’s cheeks. Make small ears and attach in place.
- Drill small holes all around the head so the mane can be wired later.
- Poke holes in the back of the mask through the nose for venting.
- Allow to completely dry.
- Bisque fire to shelf cone04.
- Thin SC-25 Crackerjack Brown and brush over the face with CB-604 #4 Soft Fan. Lightly wipe back with a damp sponge to antique.
- Brush on 2 thinned coats of SC-5 Tiger Tail to the face using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan. Brush on SC-24 Dandelion with CB-404 #4 Pointed Round to the sun cheeks.
- Brush on 2 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail using aCB-404 #4 Pointed Round to the eyes. Use SC-25 Crackerjack Brown for the pupil and SC-15 Tuxedo for the iris.
- Paint the end of the nose with SC-15 Tuxedo using CB-404 #4 Pointed Round.
- Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing and allow to dry. Make sure the holes are clear of glaze before firing.
- Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
- Make a wire mane with various colors of Artistic Wire or pipe cleaners, threaded from the back.
