Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using the 2" Blue Masking Tape, seal off all of the top areas of the pumpkin, excluding the bottom hole. Overlap the masking tape onto itself to give added strength. Make sure the edges of the tape are secured to the ware to avoid leaks when rolling the interior.
  3. Place some FN-09 Black into a small cup and add a little bit off water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water). It  should be the consistency of a coffee cream. Pour this into the inside of the pumpkin and roll around to completely coat the interior. Drain out the excess glaze and keep inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside using a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
  4. Using CB-604 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SC-34 Jack-O-Lantern to the outside of the pumpkin excluding the stem. While the thrid coat of color is still wet, apply SC-94 Curry Around into the deep folds of the pumpkin.
  5. Using CB-602 Soft Fan, load with SC-23 Jack-O-Lantern and tip one edge of the brush with SC-94 Curry Around, and then also SC-81 Cinnamon Stix. Apply into the deep folds of the pumpkin keeping the darker colors in the crevices and fading the color out over the higher portions of each section of the pumpkin. Let dry.
  6. Use the MC-002 12mm Masking Tape to cover the deep sections of the pumpkin. This does not have to be exact. When applying the tape, make the tape undulate to where there isn't a straight line to the tape's edge.
  7. Along the top sections of the pumpkin, apply 2 stripes of MC-001 6mm Masking Tape between the previous taped sections. Once agian, don't make the tape straight, but give it some slight curvature. Make sure all of the edges of the tape are secured.
  8. Using CB-602 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SG-202 White Cobblestone to the three taped off sections on the pumpkin. Let each coat dry slightly to where the color has lost its sheen, but not completely bone dry. For a larger break up of the Cobblestone glaze, you can apply a fourth coat. Do not let the cobblestone dry completely before moving to the next step.
  9. Using CB-602 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of SC-54 Vanilla Dip over the previously applied Cobblestone glaze. This will tint the final color. Do not let dry completely before moving to the next step.
  10. Before the Stroke & Coat and Cobblestone glazes have completely dried, remove the smaller tape from the ware.
  11. To condition your brush for wax resist first dampen the brush in water and squeeze out any excess water. Load the brush with AC-525 Brush Cleaner then squeeze between a paper towel.
  12. Apply 1 coat of AC-302 Wax over the cobblestone glaze areas. When all the cobblestone areas have been covered with wax, wash the brush immediately with warm water and AC-525 Brush Cleaner.
  13. Remove the wider tape over the crevices portion of the pumpkin.
  14. Fill AC-222 Writer Tip Bottle with SC-54 Vanilla Dip. Apply 2 or 3 thin lines over the crevices next to the cobblestoe areas. These lines can be broken and not continuous.
  15. Using CB-404 Pointed Round, apply SC-15 Tuxedo to the inner edges of the cut portions of the face. This will give you a sharp edge to separate the colors.
  16. Using CB-404 Pointed Round tipped with SC-39 Army Surplus, shade the bottom edges on the stem of the pumpkin. Keep the color heaviest where the stem meets the pumpkin.
  17. Using CB-602 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of EL-133 Autumn over the entire stem.
  18. Stilt and fire to self cone 05/06.
  19. Insert the light fixture to the back of the piece after installing the bulb.
