Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a Soft Fan, apply 2 two coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the canvas.
  3. Lay the feather on the canvas in your desired direction, pencil in the direction of the stem and eye.
  4. Cut the eye from the pattern and with water place it position on the canvas.
  5. Around the paper eye of the feather, start with SC-27 Sour Apple, next SC-13 Grapel then SC-10 Teal Next Time. Apply 2 coats of these colors overlapping each color when changing colors, apply color to the entire top surface of the canvas.
  6. Lay the peacock feather into the damp glaze, or re-wet with water if dry. You may need to spread some of the feathers apart for a better print. Brush the feather with the same color that is beneath the feathers, brush in the direction of the feather. Allow to dry to the touch.
  7. Sponge off some of the glaze that is around the feathers for a whiter background.
  8. Using a Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail to the canvas, again follow the direction of the feathers.
  9. Pull off the feather after the second coat and pull off the paper eye.
  10. Pencil on the detail lines for color on the eye.
  11. Use a plastic applicator with the large tip to pool the color into the eye. Start with SC-12 Moody Blue for the center, then SC-31 The Blues, then EL-121 Copper Aventurine, and last SC-33 Fruit of the Vine. Optional: You can substitute EL-121 Copper Aventurine with SC-25 Crackerjack Brown. Allow to dry.
  12. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
