Turn your little one's handprint into a leprechaun complete with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. The first step to this project is the child's handprint. It should be centered between the left and right side of the plate (according to the scene you are about to paint), fingers pointing downward, positioned together with the thumb also pointing downward and the base of palm 2" from the rim of the plate.
3. Paint the child's palm using SC-46 Rawhide, then paint the child's fingers and thumb using SC-25 Crackerjack Brown. It is OK to allow some of the SC-25 Crackerjack Brown to go on to the palm.
4. Hold the back of the child's hand, keeping the fingers and thumb together and press it in the position described above.
5. Once the handprint has dried, which should just take a moment, trace the provided design onto the plate or sketch the scene on by yourself. You will need to position the design so that the hat is atop the palm down about ¼" to ½" on the palm. It is possible, depending on the size of the hand, you will have to trace the hat and then re-position the design to trace the remaining elements. It is also possible that you will need to shrink the design on a copier for smaller hands.
6. Once you have the design sketched or traced on the plate, make a wash of SC-28 Blue Isle and apply it to the sky using a cotton ball and swirling motions.
7. Using a round brush, apply 1 coat of one of each the following (SC-42 Butter Me Up, SC-33 Fruit of the Vine, SC-75 Orange-A-Peel, SC-74 Hot Tamale) to one of the sections of the rainbow.
8. Using a large round brush, you will now dilute SC-39 Army Surplus with a bit of water and cover the foreground or the first layer of hills. Do this by dispensing a bit of SC-39 Army Surplus on the palette, dip your brush in some water, mix the water in with the glaze and then apply a single coat to the hills. Repeat this method but use SC-52 Toad-ily Green and coat the second layer of hills with a single application.
9. Apply 2 coats of SC-8 Just Froggy to the Leprechaun's pants and hat, save the small square just above the rim of the hat.
10. Using CB-408 #8 Pointed Round and SC-8 Just Froggy make clovers along the bottom of the plate. Do this by making three hearts that connect at the bottom tip: one at 9 o'clock, one at 12 o'clock and one at 3 o'clock. Then, give each one a stem. You will, of course, want to adjust the orientation of the clovers. So, adjust that mental watch hand and go crazy! Don't forget to paint the clover the leprechaun is holding.
11. UsingCB-110 #10/0 Liner, make a series of thin vertical lines using SC-8 Just Froggy all the way along both sleeves and the jacket of the leprechaun. Then, make a series of horizontal lines along the sleeves and jacket to create a plaid effect.
12. Apply a single coat of SC-51 Poo Bear to the vest peeking out beneath the leprechaun's jacket and to his tights.
13. Apply 3 coats of SC-51 Poo Bear to the inside of the pot of gold.
14. Apply a dot of SC-51 Poo Bear to the square above the rim of the hat.
15. Dilute SC-51 Poo Bear as described above when we used SC-39 Army Surplus on the hills. Apply a single coat of the diluted SC-51 Poo Bear over the entire jacket.
16. Apply 1 coat of SC-15 Tuxedo to the shoes.
17. Apply 3 coats of SC-15 Tuxedo to the pot of gold. Using a very thin brush, make circles inside the pot of gold leaving solid circles of SC-51 Poo Bear inside the pot as if it were full of gold coins.
18. Using a damp Q-tip, wipe away two circles where the leprechaun's eyes should be. Apply a thin dot of SC-16 Cotton Tail to that spot.
19. Now it is time to outline your piece with SC-15 Tuxedo. Using CB-106 #6 Script Liner, outline the clovers, the hills, the rainbow, the leprechaun's hat, jacket, hands, pants and legs. Outline the vest that peeks out from beneath the jacket and add three small dots to serve as buttons along the vertical line that shows where the vest comes together. Still using a liner brush, complete the leprechaun's face.
20. Using the tip of a round brush, dab on SC-25 Crackerjack Brown around the leprechaun's face to serve as side burns and just beneath the hat as hair.
21. If desired, paint very thin squiggly lines along the fingers or the beard of the leprechaun using diluted SC-15 Tuxedo.
22. Personalize in anyway you see fit.
23. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
