1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Place some FN-001 White into a small cup and add a little bit of water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water). It should be the consistency of a coffee cream. Pour this into the vase and roll around to completely coat the interior of the vase. Drain out the excess glaze and keep vase inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside using a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of FN-001 White to the pages and the front of the book.
4. Print negative patterns on a laser copier/printer only (do not use a ink jet printer) on a dark setting.
5. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, apply slightly thinned SW-301 Iron Wash over the design area, the ink from the printer should resist the SW-301 Iron Wash, if it doesn’t add a little more water to your brush. Too much water will result in light transfer. Do not pre mix the water with the SW-301 Iron Wash.
6. After the SW-301 Iron is dry, touch up any light spots with more SW-301 Iron wash. Allow to totally dry.
7. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply a heavy coat of FN-001 White over the image.
8. Use tweezers to pick up the paper and place to the glazed side to the edge of the book vase.
9. Give it a few seconds to prevent sliding, then press the paper into place, removing air bubbles.
10. Drying the transfer is essential, must be dry before taking off the paper. Usually takes about three to four hours.
11. Cut out the large flower and the small rectangle from the pattern.
12. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply some very thin SC-39 Army Surplus over the front of the book, leave lots of the FN-001 White glaze showing. This is just so the flower cut out is not a pure white.
13. While wet, place on the paper cut outs to the front of the book. Press with a paper towel.
14. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 slightly thinned coats of SC-39 Army Surplus to the front of the book, make sure to go over the edges of all the paper.
15. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 thinned coats to the spine and back of the book.
16. Stamp the front and the back with SC-15 Tuxedo and ST-337 Funky Trees, make sure not to line up the stamp.
17. Remove the paper cut outs. Do not remove the SW-301 Iron Wash paper as it takes longer to dry. Typically 4-5 hours.
18. Thin SC-41 Brown Cow to brush over the pages, sponge some off to antique.
19. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply S-2101 Crystal Clear Brushing Glaze to the pages.
20. Remove the paper with the SW-301 Iron Wash.
21. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, Apply thinned SC-39 Army Surplus into the space around the leaves.
22. Pencil in the word Flowers on the rectangle space.
23. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner, outline with SC-15 Tuxedo. Allow to dry.
24. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
