Instructions

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Enlarge design to desired size. Using AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, trace the design onto the bisque. Allow for a 1" border between the design and edge of the plate.
3. Mix equal parts of Liquid Casting Slip to equal parts of SC-16 Cotton Tail. 
4. Fill AC-222 Medium Detail Bottle with mixture, place cap on top and shake to thoroughly mix. Attach metail tip for decorating. Shake bottle upside down gently to remove any air bubbles from the tip.
5. Practice piping on a piece of paper to ensure the product is flowing smoothly. Carefully pipe the design onto the bisque following the pattern. Apply the piping mixture in sections, particularly when lines overlap. Allow the design to dry slightly before continuing over a portion where lines intersect to ensure you will get crisp lines and angles. Tip: We suggest that you start in the middle and work your way out. Try to keep an even flow when applying the piped lines. 
6. Starting decorating the butterflies first. Colors are applied in stages of washes to the entire pattern and should be applied from light to dark. Load the brush with water and dip the tip of the brush into the color. 
7. Use a Pointed Round or the Script Liner, apply SC-6 Sunkissed to the outer edges on of the butterfly wings. Add SC-50 Orange Ya Happy, pulling the color out from the body of the butterfly without covering all of the Sunkissed. Next apply SC-73 Candy Apple Red, SC-14 Java Bean, SC-34 Down to Earth, then a small amount of SC-15 Tuxedo. 
8. Apply SC-14 Java bean shaded with SC-15 Tuxedo to the body of the butterfly.
9. Use SC-6 and SC-24 at the top tips of the wings are. The lower section of the wings are the same as in the previous steps, except there are two rows of left unpainted. See finished sample for locations.
10. Flood the leaves and stems with a wash of SC-5 Tiger Tail. Next, flood with SC-52 Toad-ily Green and SC-39 Army Surplus.
11. Flood the flowers with SC-6 Sunkissed. Shade the flowers with SC-24 Dandelion and SC-25 Crackerjack Brown.
12. Start in the middle of the plate and apply a thinnned SC-29 Blue Grass. Add more color / less water as you go toward the outside of the plate.
13. Use one of the Soft Fan brushes to apply three coats of SC-29 Blue Grass to the back of the plate.
14. Apply thinned SC-15 Tuxedo over the antennae piping.
15. Dampen a finger or brush to lightly brush overthe flower stamens to remove the color.
16. Allow piece to dry completely, then apply S-2101 Clear Brushing Glaze.
17. Fire to Cone 06.
