Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Dinnerware Plate: Pour some SW-302 Rutile Wash onto a plate/bowl then take hamper netting and lay on the plate into the SW-302 Rutile Wash, remove excess SW-302 Rutile Wash so that it doesn’t clog the holes of the netting, then stretch it out and lay it onto the bisque plate. You may need an extra set of hands for this.  Lay a paper towel over the netting and take a dry sponge to pat the paper towel, this will take the layer of air that may be between the netting and the plate.  Remove the netting.  Allow to dry.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SW-255 Gray Opal to the top of the plate. Allow to dry.
  4. Salad Plate: take some SW-302 Rutile Wash and pour some into a plate/small bowl, use thin jute and soak it into the SW-302 Rutile Wash, remove some from the jute so it isn’t dripping.  Lay it on the plate in a spiral pattern; it can ended up looking like a rose. Remove the jute. Allow to dry.
  5. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SW-255 Gray Opal to the top of the plate. Allow to dry.
  6. Note: The application of the SW-302 Rutile Wash and the SW-121 are affected by the direction of the application.
  7. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of SW-302 Rutile Wash to the inside of the bowl and the backs of the plates, following the contour of the piece. Next apply 2 thin coats of SW-121 Smoke, following the contour of the piece. More SW-121 Smoke will make the color darker.
  8. Latte Cup: is done with the SW-302 Rutile Wash soaked in a thinner string then applied to the center area of the mug in a striped fashion.
  9. Top and bottom of the cup is 1 coat of SW-302 Rutile, then with 2 thin coats of SW-121 Smoke.
  10. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of SW-255 Gray Opal to the inside of the cup and to the center area.
  11. With a damp sponge, wipe off any excess glaze off the foot of plate, bowl and the cup.
  12. Place on a high-fired kiln washed kiln shelf.
  13. Do Not Stilt and make sure the plate, bowl and the cup are not hanging over the kiln shelf.
  14. Fire to shelf cone 5/6.  Medium Speed.
