Project Information

Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-014 Antique White to the top surface of the cake plate and pedestal. Apply the glaze up into the inside of the pedestal as well since the piece is utilitarian in function. Allow to dry.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply, apply 3 coats of FN-004 Red to the edge and back of the cake plate.
  4. Using a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, transfer the pattern to the piece.
  5. Using a CB-406 #6 Pointed Round, apply 3 coats of SC-26 Green Thumb to the leaves.
  6. Load a Silk Decorating Sponge with SC-6 Sunkissed and create the highlight/blush in the small strawberry. Apply the first coat to the highlight and the second and third coats in smaller concentric circles so that the strongest color saturation is towards the center of the highlight.
  7. Using a CB-406 #6 Pointed Round, apply 2 coats of SC-6 Sunkissed to the center of the flowers. Side load (¼ load) a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader with SC-26 Green Thumb and SC-34 Down to Earth and shade the flower centers.
  8. Side load (¼ load) a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader with SC-16 Cotton Tail and shade the outside edges of the flower petals with 1 coat of color. Using the same brush side loaded with SC-34 Down to Earth, paint in a "ruffle" next to the flower centers on each petal. Paint in the turn backs on each petal with one heavy coat of SC-16 Cotton Tail using CB-200 #0 Liner.
  9. Load CB-404 #4 Pointed Round with SC-78 Lime-Light and side load the brush with SC-26 Green Thumb. Paint in the strawberry calyx leaves with 2 strokes to complete each leaf. Keep the dark color the same on each stroke when completing each leaf and to form the dark vein.
  10. Using a CB-406 #6 Pointed Round loaded with SC-73 Candy Apple Red, apply 1 coat to the strawberries' edge about the width of the brush or approximately 3/8". This will form a solid even edge for the sponging of the successive coats of color.
  11. Using a Silk Decorating Sponge loaded with SC-73 Candy Apple Red apply 2 to 3 coats of color to the strawberries. Go as close to the edge without going beyond it. Blend and fade the color where it meets the yellow on the smaller strawberry. This should produce a shaded and blended effect where the yellow lightens and then turns to red. Rinse and reload the decorating sponge with SC-74 Hot Tamale and veil a fine coat of color over the previous red. This is not a solid coat. Do not apply this over the yellow in the small strawberry.
  12. Using a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader, load the tip of the brush with SC-8 Just Froggy and dry brush from the center of each leaf producing a fine hair-like stroke of color. Using CB-200 #0 Liner apply 2 coats of SC-78 Lime-Light to the veins in the leaves and to the stems of the strawberries. Detail the stems with SC-8 Just Froggy.
  13. Side load (¼ load ) a CB-312 #12 Flat Shader with SC-63 Popeye's Favorite and shade along the center vein on the leaves and out along the top vein to give it depth. Thin some of the SC-63 Popeye's Favorite and outline the leaves and detail the stems using CB-110 #10/0 Liner.
  14. Detail the flower centers with SC-34 Down to Earth using CB-110 #10/0 Liner.
  15. Using CB-312 #12 Flat Shader side loaded (¼ loaded) with SC-15 Tuxedo and shade parts of the sides of the strawberries. Refer to the pattern for areas to shade.
  16. Paint in the seeds on the parts of the red strawberries with SC-15 Tuxedo using a CB-220 #2/0 Detail Liner. Use SC-74 Hot Tamale for the seeds over the yellow highlight in the small strawberry. Add a white highlight to half of the seeds in each strawberry. This also includes the red ones on the small strawberry.
  17. Center the pedestal on the banding wheel and using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan loaded with SC-74 Hot Tamale paint in the bands. Allow to dry.
  18. Stilt and fire the pieces to shelf cone 06.
