Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Place some FN-009 Black into a small cup and add a little bit of water to slightly dilute it (about 3 parts glaze and 1 part water).  It should be the consistency of a coffee cream.  Pour this into the pitcher and roll around to completely coat the interior of the pitcher.  Drain out the excess glaze and keep pitcher inverted until it has lost its shine. Wipe off any glaze from the outside using a damp sponge. Allow to dry.
  3. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 coats of FN-033 Mediterranean Teal to the outside of the piece. Allow to dry.
  4. Using a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, transfer the basic shapes of the leaf pattern on to the ware.
  5. Apply 2 coats of SC-33 Fruit of the Vine to the basic teardrop shapes of the leaves using CB-604 #4 Soft Fan or CB-408 #8 Pointed Round.
  6. On to a tile put out some of the following colors;  SC-3 Wine About It, SC-11 Blue Yonder, SC-13 Grapel, SC-85 Orkid, SC-71 Purple-licious.
  7. Using the detailed portion of the pattern, paint in the colors as noted on the pattern.  This is done with only a single stroke of the brush loaded with the various colors. The stroke used is a slightly curved pressure-point stroke or “C” stroke. Load CB-408 #8 Pointed Round and paint in the stroke with the color(s) noted on the detail portion of the pattern.
  8. Paint in a “print” stroke of SC-16 Cotton Tail as noted in the pattern.
  9. Retrace or draw in the detail portion of the pattern. Even if you free hand the detail part of the pattern it is recommended that some direction lines be drawn in to ease the painting. Onto a tile, squeeze out some of the color from SG-401 Black Designer Liner bottle. Using a CB-110 #10/0 Liner and or CB-106 #6 Script Liner loaded with the color, paint in the outlines and veins of the leaves
  10. Using SA-003 White Accent to detail the pattern even further. The white color is used as an “Accent” to the black detail lines. While they may not exactly mirror the painted lines, they may cross over them at times too. Follow the placement of the lines using the detail portion of the pattern.  Where a wider or thickening of the line is needed, you may employ a brush to “beef” up this part of the line(s).
  11. Using a CB-408 Pointed Round loaded with SC-15 Tuxedo, paint 3 coats to the handle of the vase.
  12. Thin some SC-15 Tuxedo on a tile. Using a Silk Sponge, sponge 1-2 coats of  SC-15 Tuxedo around the top and bottom of the vase.
  13. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of S-210 Crystal Clear Brushing over the design area. Allow to dry.
  14. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06/05.
