Cheesecloth provides the textured effect on the background.

1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 Bisque. Moisten a clean Sponge and wipe Bisque to remove any dust.
2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 Coats of FN-001 White to the front of the star plate.
3. Cut out the pattern while the Glaze is drying.
4. Pencil in flowers and leaves on the plate. Mark the position of the flower with a dart from the pattern to the plate. Cut the pattern into three pieces - flower, stem and leaves. This will make it easier to work with on the design. Also cut out the swirls for the center of the flower.
5. In this technique you have to think in reverse. What you paint first on the pattern is what will show up first on the finished design.
6. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply SC-74 Hot Tamale on the flower, SC-75 Orange-A-Peel on the traced large flower centers, and SC-24 Dandelion on the center of the smaller flower.
7. Apply SC-39 Army Surplus mixed with some SC-27 Sour Apple, for shading, on the leaves up to the flowers and stems on the plate.
8. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, dab on SC-24 Dandelion to the center of the small cut out flower pattern. Using the same brush dab on SC-74 Hot Tamale on the rest of the flower pattern. Apply a liberal amount of Glaze. If you take too long and let the Glaze dry your pattern will not adhere and may be splotchy when finished.
9. Lay the cut out flower pattern on the plate, press lightly. Allow the pattern to sit a minute so it grabs hold of the plate. Then gently press from the center out to remove any air bubbles. With a Sponge remove excess Glaze that seeps out.
10. For the large flower, cut out the spiral center, brush the paper with some SC-24 Dandelion and SC-39 Army Surplus then lay in the center of the flower on the plate.
11. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner to brush the backside of the paper flower with SC-75 Orange-A-Peel in the center and the remainder of the flower with SC-74 Hot Tamale. Press on the painted flower on the plate.
12. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply SC-39 Army Surplus and SC-27 Sour Apple to the stem and leaves, painting the backside of the paper. Apply to the plate. Overlap the stem onto the flower so it looks like it is growing from the flower. Do not press down for a few minutes. Use a Sponge to clean off excess.
13. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 1 coat of FN-001 White to the front of the plate.
14. Cut a piece of cheesecloth large enough to cover the surface of the piece.
15. Wet the cheesecloth and ring out all of the water. This will allow the Glaze to go through the cheesecloth.
16. Lay the cheesecloth on to the top of the plate. Make sure it is making contact with the entire plate.
17. With a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply a thinned coat of FN-001White over the cheesecloth. Thin the Glaze with water.
18. After the cheesecloth is dry to the touch, using the colors listed above and a dry Sponge, lightly dab on colors over the cheesecloth. This is an accent design, so do not apply the colors heavily.
19. Remove the cheesecloth when dry to the touch.
20. Remove the paper pattern with a pin or tweezers.
21. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 3 Coats of CG-756 Firecracker to the back of the plate and with a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 1 thin coat of the crystals to the flowers only.
22. Do Not apply Clear Glaze.
23. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
