Instructions

  1. Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque.  Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
  2. Using 2 separate CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, dedicate one to UG-51 China White and the other to UG-100 Terra Cotta. Place the dish securely on a banding wheel.
  3. Begin in the center of the pie plate with UG-51 China White. Spin the banding wheel while you pull your brush out toward the edge. Repeat this until the Underglaze remains wet and doesn’t just get soaked up into the bisque.
  4. With UG-100 Terra Cotta begin on the outer edge of the pie plate; doing the same thing only working your way in towards the white.
  5. Begin overlapping these colors and blending them together. The banding wheel should be spinning this entire time. You may want to add some water to your brush to get a smoother blend.
  6. Once the colors are blended you’ll want to paint the outside and the rim of the pie plate with 3 coats of SW-122 Maycoshino. Do not apply to the bottom because this is a stoneware piece. Allow to dry.
  7. With a pencil and AC-230 Clay Carbon Paper, transfer the recipe to the center of the pie plate.
  8. Using a CB-202 #2 Detail Liner, apply 1 coat of SG-401 Black Designer Liner to the letters. It helps to get a smooth application if you dip your brush in water first. Allow to dry.
  9. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of SW-001 Stoneware Clear to the inside of the plate. Allow to dry.
  10. With a damp sponge, wipe off any excess glaze off the foot of the pie plate.
  11. Place on a high-fired kiln washed kiln shelf.
  12. Do Not Stilt and make sure the pie plate is not hanging over the kiln shelf.
  13. Fire to shelf cone 5/6.
