What else can you make starting with this greenware shape?

1. Cast gourd on the heavy side. Keep it leather hard.
2. Roll out clay ¼" thick using a rolling pin on canvas.
3. Trace chicken parts pattern onto the clay.
4. Using a Fettling Knife, cut out and remove the excess clay.
5. Use the CD-1078 Press Tools to press in a pattern in the cone and waddle.
6. Attach parts to the gourd as shown in the picture by scoring and applying slip/clay slurry to the parts. For the tail, cut a slit in the gourd then put the end of the tail inside about ¼" for extra support. Roll a coil of clay and put underneath the tail. Prop until leather hard.
7. For the eyes, take a ball of clay and press in the CD-1078 Press Tools Spiral Tool and attach to the gourd.
8. Allow to throughly dry.
9. Bisque fire to shelf cone 04.

Painting Directions:

1. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
2. Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of FN-001 White to the body of the chicken.
3. Wet some cheese cloth. Dampen the glaze with a wet sponge. Spread the cheesecloth over the body of the chicken, cutting when necessary to go around the body parts. Brush back over the cheesecloth with thinned FN-001 White glaze to get the cheese cloth to stick.
4. When dry, apply 2 coats of SC-76 Cara-bein Blue to the body of the chicken. Remove the cheese cloth when the last coat begins to dry and after the shine leaves the glaze. Sponge and scrape off any of the SC-76 Cara-bein Blue that may have gotten on the other parts.
5. Thin SC-5 tiger Tail with lots of water. With CB-106 #6 Script Liner make large loops of color over the blue and white chicken.
6. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, brush the wings and the tail and eyes with 3 coats of SC-16 Cotton Tail.
7. Using the AC-213 Sponge on a Stick load the sponge with SC-5 Tiger Tail. Tap the SC-5 Tiger Tail onto your stamp. Press the stamp gently onto the wings. Allow to dry.
8. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 3 coats of SC-74 Hot Tamale to the cone and waddle. Dry brush SC-75 Orange-A-Peel to these parts to highlight.
9. Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 3 coats of SC-5 Tiger Tail to the beak.
10. Apply SC-76 Cara-bein Blue for the eyes and SC-15 Tuxedo for the pupils. Allow to dry.
11. Stilt and fire to shelf cone 06.
