Instructions
- Roll out clay ¼" thick between wooden slats with a rolling pin. Wrap a large solo cup or a large size drink cup with paper towel or thin cotton fabric.
- Cut a circle shape ¾" larger then the bottom of the cup and double the thickness of the shape. This is the bottom of the stein.
- Cut a piece of clay to fit around the cup, about 4 ¼" high x 12 ½" long. Center the wrapped cup over the bottom shape then wrap with the cut piece of clay. Overlap the ends of the clay and cut with a Needle Tool. Remove the excess clay and slip/clay slurry together all parts.
- Add a coil to the base of the cup. Roll a fat coil for the handle. Cut small clovers to add to the handle and the mug.
- Roll a thinner piece of clay cut about 1" wide for the belt, and cut a square for a buckle. Add all pieces to the mug shape.
- After the clay firms up remove the plastic cup to prevent cracking.
- Allow to completely dry.
- Bisque Fire to shelf cone 04.
Painting Directions:
- Begin with properly fired shelf cone 04 bisque. Moisten a clean sponge and wipe bisque to remove any dust.
- Thin some FN-010 Tree Green and roll the inside of the stein. Leave upside down to drain. Wipe any drips or spills with a damp sponge.
- Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of FN-010 Tree Green to the outside of the stein.
- Using a CB-604 #4 Soft Fan, apply 2 coats of SC-27 Sour Apple to the handle and the body of the stein. Take care to not paint in the detail, or too close to the edges.
- Using a CB-106 #6 Script Liner, apply 2 coats of SC-26 Green Thumb to the clovers. Apply 2 coats of SC-15 Tuxedo to the belt and 2 coats of SC-42 Butter Me Up to the belt buckle.
- With the AC-213 Sponge on a stick, apply SC-15 Tuxedo to the ST-383 Chain link Stamp and stamp on the clovers. Allow to dry.
- Stilt and fire to shelf cone 05/06.
